    Amsterdam Dungeon - Save 20 %

Amsterdam has been one of Europe’s greatest port cities for many centuries, and during that time it won a reputation as a magnet for all sorts of ne’er do wells, from buccaneers and brigands, to ladies of the night, and dealers in exotic and illicit substances from all four corners of the globe.

No surprise then that the Amsterdam Dungeon saw more than their fair share of business from the medieval era onwards, and its dark, dank subterranean chambers were witness to ghastly scenes of torture and death. Today, a day out in Amsterdam would not be complete without a visit to the city’s most chilling tourist attraction. For the Amsterdam Dungeon contain a number of hair-raising true-to-life exhibits and cutting-edge rides that re-create the tense atmosphere that pervaded the city’s cells and kept those incarcerated within them in thrall and fear.

Within Amsterdam Dungeon it’s not hard to imagine the awful fate of those awaiting interrogation and possibly a confrontation with the Grim Reaper himself, whose origins in Europe’s Dark Ages are outlined in the half-light of this spine-tingling netherworld.

And while you may not expect them in Amsterdam, the blood-soaked clerics of the Spanish Inquisition are nonetheless present and ready to correct. For the bloody clerics held sway for many decades when the Low Countries were an imperial province of the Spanish Netherlands. Preparing to extract information by whatever means necessary in the name of the Holy See, they are just one of the many merciless real-life horrors awaiting those who dare to venture into the Amsterdam Dungeon.

Just make sure that you know your way out again, so that your trip into the dark side does not become your last day out in Amsterdam!

To get to the Amsterdam Dungeons, which are to be found in the city centre, take a five minute walk from the central rail station down Damrak to the Damsquare, or take a tram to Rokin/Spui - 4, 9, 16 or 24. There’s also car parking for a fee at Bijenkorf.

    Amsterdam Tulip Museum - Save 20 %

The story of Holland's most famous flower

Experience the history of the tulip, from its origin on the windswept mountains in Central Asia to the worldwide phenomenon it is today. Greed, desire, anguish and dedication all played their part in the development of the tulip. From a place of honour in the gardens of the Sultans in Istanbul the tulip became the object of unprecedented speculation in 17th century Holland. It was the period known as Tulipmania, when tulip bulbs changed hands for the price of a house, leading eventually to a disastrous financial collapse.

After this period the cultivation of tulips did not stop. On the contrary, stripped of all its excessiveness the tulip trade now developed into a normal business. Your visit to the museum ends with a film which not only allows you a view of the Dutch tulip fields but which also takes you on a visit to a modern tulip farm.

    Apsley House Discounts

    Apsley House - Save 20 %

Apsley House, also known as Number One London, is one of the most interesting visitor attractions in London as well as a superb idea for a weekend outing. Close to Wellington Arch, south-east of Hyde Park Corner, Apsely House offers the perfect blend between a fun filled family day out as well as a wonderful educational experience. The attraction has been home to the Duke of Wellington since his victory over Napoleon at Waterloo and is today one of the few visitor attractions that have not encountered many changes since it was built in 1778.  Another incredible fact about this attraction is that it is still being used by the family as a private property, something not that many family attractions can boast about.

As a visitor you will get to view 10 spectacular rooms, the sumptuous Inner Hall and outstanding porcelain and silver collections. It would not be home of the Duke of Wellington if it wasn’t to commemorate the all so important victory in the battle of Waterloo, which is why a naked 11-foot high Napoleon by Canova can be seen guarding the staircase at Apsley House. In addition to this, the family attraction contains exhibits of paintings by Goya, Caravaggio, Rubens just to name a few, which were given to the Duke by following his military victories over Napoleon.
